Description

Multi-Dimensional Reporting is a two day class that will teach you how to report on dimensional data using functions.

There are various types of metadata models you can work within the Cognos Analytics environment. These models represent a logical interpretation of the best way to present the data to you, the report writers and to your business analysts.

Because of this, the focus of this Multi-Dimensional Reporting course will be to teach you how to work with DMR (Dimensionally Modeled Relational) and OLAP (Online Analytical Processing.

In IBM Cognos Analytics Reporting, the structural metadata from DMR and OLAP models is displayed in a similar type of dimensional structure. However, their query processing through the Cognos Query Engine (CQE) to the data source is quite different. As a result, your report authors don’t generally dive too deeply into query processing, but it is important for them to understand some basics.

DMR processing involves vendor specific Structures Query Language (SQL) being sent to a relational data source. As a result, the CQE the DMR model is handled as a virtual cube in the application server’s memory. It is then converted and sent as native SQL to the data source.

DMR and OLAP structures behave like pyramids with a top-down, or parent-child type of behavior. Rather than dealing with data values, you are working with objects that use the data values as descriptive properties. The result is a broadened scope of how the data can be manipulated for reporting and analysis
