Cognos Active Reports

Cognos Active Reports is a report output type that was introduced in IBM Cognos BI 10. However, it has continued its success in Cognos Analytics 11.x. This type of report, you can create interactive reporting applications with many features and functions that you don’t have with regular Cognos reports. The unique features allow you to deliver additional value to your Cognos report consumers.

With Cognos Active reports you can run your reports just like any other report in the Cognos portal. However, you can distribute them as MHT standalone report files to be run independent of your Cognos environment. You can explore the report features by resubmitting different prompt values to render the report new data output. You can do this without re-submitting to the database because all the data is bundled in the report when you created and saved the report saved. If you run your report in Cognos Analytics portal, the MHT file will be unpacked to an XHTML format. The actual MHT file is generated when the report is saved, and the saved report is downloaded.

The MHT file contains a snapshot of the data at the time it is downloaded. Your data in the file is not connected to the source database and therefore does not change as you change the database data. As a result, to reflect the latest data, you need to re-generate the MHT file.
